Pee Desperation - 4 Tips to Help You Get Through It! TheWellthieone

We’ve all been through it, you’re sitting in the car for a long journey and you just passed a rest area 5 minutes ago. Suddenly all you can think about is how much you have to use the bathroom and there is nowhere in sight to find relief!

What is pee desperation?

Pee desperation is the urgent and overwhelming need to urinate. This can be caused by:

  1. Ignoring the need to uriate for far too long
  2. Having a full bladder
  3. Drinking too much fluid
  4. Certain medical conditions.

Pee desperation can be uncomfortable and even painful. If you are unable to find a toilet in time, you may wet yourself.

In some cases, peeing may relieve the discomfort temporarily, but the urge will usually come back within a short period of time.

If you regularly experience pee desperation, it is important to see a doctor to rule out any underlying medical conditions.

There’s no need to be embarrassed about needing to go to the bathroom. Everybody does it, and it’s typically not a problem. However, there are some circumstances in which going to the bathroom can become an exceptionally difficult task, making pee desperation very real.

How to bring comfort during a bout of pee desperation

If you’re ever in a situation where you have to urinate very badly, there are a few things you can do to make yourself more comfortable.

  1. Try to relax. Tensing up your muscles will only make it worse.
  1. Take slow, deep breaths and try to focus on something else. This will help distract you from the urgency of the situation.
  1. If you can, hold your breath for a few seconds and then let it out slowly. This will help to calm your body’s natural urge to urinate.
The best way to eliminate pee desperation is to visit the bathroom long before you feel an emergency.

  1. Finally, and this seems obvious, try to go to the bathroom as quickly as possible. The sooner you relieve yourself, the sooner the discomfort will pass.

Pee desperation can turn into urinary incontinence

If pee desperation becomes a regular occurrence, there is a chance that you may be experiencing some degree of urinary incontinence.  Urinary incontinence is the loss of bladder control, which is a common and often embarrassing problem.

The severity ranges from occasionally leaking urine when you cough or sneeze to having an urge to urinate that’s so sudden and strong you don’t get to a toilet in time.

Though it occurs more often as people get older, urinary incontinence isn’t an inevitable consequence of aging. If urinary incontinence affects your daily activities, don’t hesitate to see your doctor.
