Today, Vans is a way of life. It is a personality and the pride of California skate culture. The company sponsors several professional skateboarders and hosts annual competitions to support the sport.

Vans also collaborates with artists and designers to create limited-edition collections. These collaborations have resulted in some of the most iconic Vans shoes, including the Checkerboard Slip-On and the Sk8-Hi.

How to lace Vans the Old Skool way

Vans are a special kind of shoe that oozes personality, laid back style and a specific kind of cool status. There are a few ways to lace vans, but there is one that is the right way, which is the Old Skool way.  This is the method of lacing that was intended for these shoes when they originally came out.

This lacing technique involves starting with a straight bar with the laces nearest the toe, and then criss-crossing the laces over the lip rather than under until you get to the top of the laces holes on each side.

The finished product of a correctly laced pair of Vans shoes is shown in the picture above.
