Glutathione Dose Calculator: How Much Should You Take Daily?

Glutathione liposomal supplement bottles representing dose calculator

Glutathione dose calculator — the right daily dose depends on your goal (detox, skin brightening, anti-aging, immunity, liver, or energy), body weight, age, severity level, and how fast your body is currently burning through glutathione due to alcohol, medications, mold, or amalgams. Get the dose right and people see meaningful before-and-after results in 60-90 days. Get it wrong (too low, wrong form, missing pairings) and you’ll quit thinking glutathione doesn’t work.

Glutathione is foundational but works best paired with the right upstream protocol. The free 90-second Toxic Load Type Tool identifies whether heavy metals, mold, parasites, or adrenal patterns are driving your glutathione depletion.

The Wellthie One

Glutathione Dose Calculator

Personalized mg/day + best form (IV vs liposomal vs oral vs patch vs injection).

Active depletion factors (check all that apply):

How To Use The Calculator

The calculator asks five quick things — your primary goal, body weight, age range, severity level, and form preference — plus a checklist of depletion factors that burn through glutathione faster than supplementation can replace. From those inputs it generates a personalized daily dose, recommended delivery form (IV vs liposomal oral vs injection vs patch vs precursor stack), and a stack of pairings.

What Each Input Does

Primary goal sets the base dose. Skin brightening needs the highest doses (750mg base) because the tyrosinase-inhibition pathway requires sustained high plasma levels. Detox protocols sit at 600mg base. Energy / mitochondrial support runs lower (400mg) because energy effects show up at smaller doses paired with the right cofactors.

Body weight scales the dose. Clinical research uses 5-10mg per kg of body weight as the therapeutic range — a 200-pound adult needs noticeably more than a 120-pound adult at the same severity.

Bentonite, charcoal, chelation, cilantro, mercury chasing — these protocols all assume heavy metals are your dominant toxic load. For some people they are. Plenty of others land in this kind of work suspecting metals when adrenal exhaustion, parasites, or mold are actually doing more of the damage, and the protocols look very different depending which one is yours. If you want to sort it out before committing to weeks of binders, the 2-minute What's Draining Your Brain Tool places you in one of four root cause types so the next thing you try has a real chance of working.

Age matters because glutathione production drops with age. Adults over 50 produce roughly 30% less glutathione than adults under 30. The calculator adds 15-25% to the dose for older adults.

Severity level tells the calculator whether you’re using glutathione preventively (multiplier 0.7), addressing clear symptoms (multiplier 1.0), or trying to push results during chronic illness (multiplier 1.4). Most people land in the moderate category.

Form preference filters out delivery methods you won’t use (e.g. injections if you’re needle-averse, or oral-only if you’re avoiding clinics). If you select “any,” the calculator picks the highest-impact form your goal + severity supports.

Depletion factors are critical. Glutathione gets burned through by alcohol (each drink burns 200mg+), Tylenol (each dose burns 100mg+), prescription medications, amalgam fillings (constant mercury leak), mold exposure, chronic illness, high stress, and standard American diet. Marking 4+ depletion factors triggers an alert that supplementation alone can’t outpace your depletion rate — you need to address upstream causes too.

What To Do With The Output

The calculator returns three things: a daily mg dose, the recommended delivery form, and a goal-specific protocol with pairings.

Apply the dose consistently for 60-90 days. Glutathione is not an “I’ll try it for a week” supplement. The body has to rebuild reserves, then start using them efficiently. Skin changes show at 4-8 weeks. Immune system changes at 60+ days. Mitochondrial changes at 90+ days.

Take the form recommendation seriously. If the calculator says IV and you substitute cheap reduced glutathione capsules, you’ll absorb maybe 5% of what you’d absorb with IV. Form is the difference between a protocol that works and one that doesn’t.

Don’t skip the pairings. NAC (600mg) is the precursor — supports your body’s own production. Alpha-lipoic acid (300mg) recycles oxidized glutathione back to active form, AND crosses the blood-brain barrier. Vitamin C and selenium are required cofactors. Without them, you’re burning your supplemented glutathione fast and replacing it slowly.

Who This Is For

Adults using glutathione for any of these goals:

  • Heavy metal detox protocols (mercury, lead, aluminum, cadmium)
  • Skin brightening, hyperpigmentation, dark spots, melasma
  • Anti-aging, fine lines, oxidative stress reduction
  • Chronic illness recovery (long COVID, post-viral, autoimmune)
  • Liver support (fatty liver, alcohol recovery, medication burden)
  • Mitochondrial energy + fatigue
  • Athletes wanting recovery + immune support

Who This Is NOT For

  • Pregnant or nursing women (work with practitioner)
  • Children under 18 (pediatric dosing differs)
  • Anyone with sulfa drug allergy (rare cross-reactivity)
  • People with severe asthma (small subset reacts to sulfites in some glutathione preparations)
  • Anyone within 2 weeks of major surgery (consult surgeon)

What NOT To Do

  1. Don’t buy cheap reduced glutathione capsules. Standard non-Setria reduced glutathione is destroyed by stomach acid. You absorb 5%. This is why most “glutathione doesn’t work” reports come from people taking the wrong form.
  2. Don’t take with food. Empty stomach only — 30 min before breakfast or 3 hours after last meal. Food slows absorption to negligible levels.
  3. Don’t continue Tylenol use. Acetaminophen is the single biggest glutathione depleter. Each standard dose burns through 100-200mg of your glutathione. Switch to alternatives if possible.
  4. Don’t expect dramatic results in 30 days. Glutathione is foundational — it works compoundingly. Most people see real before-and-after change at 60-90 days, not 30.
  5. Don’t skip the upstream work. If amalgams, mold, or chronic infection is depleting your glutathione faster than you supplement, you’ll never catch up. Address the source.

The Bigger Picture

Glutathione is your body’s master detoxifier. Modern life (food chain, dental work, medications, alcohol, stress, environmental toxins) depletes it faster than the body can produce. Supplementing the right form at the right dose, paired with the right cofactors and upstream work, is one of the highest-leverage interventions in integrative medicine.

For a deeper look at realistic 30/60/90 day results, see the Glutathione Before And After article. For the bigger detox sequence (Phase 1-5 Klinghardt protocol with glutathione integration), use the Heavy Metal Detox Phase Tracker. And the free Toxic Load Type Tool identifies which root pattern is driving your glutathione depletion.
